On Monday, March 29, 2021, upon request from the Department of Commerce (DOC), U.S. Customs and Border Protection issued CSMS Message #46800973 delaying the effective date of the Aluminum Import (AIM) license requirement until June 28, 2021.
This delay is focused on the recently implemented rule announced by the DOC on December 23, 2020, in Federal Register 85 No 247 FR 83804. This rule included the adoption of the new Aluminum Import Monitoring and Analysis (AIM) system which will act as the aluminum import license application platform.
This delay means that aluminum licenses will no longer be required for covered aluminum product imports beginning on March 29, 2021, as was previously stated in the CSMS Message #45799085. Unless otherwise announced, the final rule will go into effect and licenses will be required beginning on June 28, 2021.

Importers or brokers will be required to apply for and obtain an import license for each entry of certain aluminum products into the United States.
