Bangkok put under State of Emergency for 60 days

The Thai government has declared a state of emergency for Bangkok and surrounding areas amid anti-government protests. The affected areas are: Bangkok, Nonthaburi, Pathum Thani’s Lat Lum Kaeo district and Samut Prakan’s Bang Phli district. The state of emergency went into effect on Wednesday and will last 60 days (January 22-March 22).

Since demonstrations against Prime Minister Yingluck Shinawatra’s government began in November, at least nine people have died and more than 450 have been wounded, according to authorities. The emergency decree gives authorities the power to impose curfews, detain suspects without court permission, censor media and declare parts of the capital off-limits.

However, all major commercial activities, including seaports and airport, are open and MIQ offices are operating as normal.

MIQ Logistics will provide periodic updates as the situation in Thailand warrants. Should you require immediate information, please contact the MIQ Thailand General Manager Somchai Thaitaechawat, Somchai.Thaitaechawat@miq.com.
