Mumbai Supply Chain Operations Impacted by Flooding

This week Mumbai has been hit by some of the heaviest flooding in a decade, due to significant rainfall from the monsoon. While it is reported that the flood waters are beginning to recede, there have been supply chain delays hampering both the airport as well as port terminals.

Port & Airport Status:

  • Mumbai Airport – Earlier in the week the Chhatrapati Shivaji International Airport had canceled several flights and diverted others temporarily.  However, it is reported that the airport is operational.
  • Jawaharlal Nehru Port: The container terminal at Jawaharlal Nehru Port (India’s largest container port) is not reporting any operational delays on their website at the moment. Click here to access their site directly.

According to The Loadstar “a combination of heavy rain and the declaration of a public holiday led GAC India to impose a skeleton staff for port and customs operations”.  Additionally, it has been reported that EDI systems servers had been down earlier in the week which has resulted in import and export clearance delays.

MIQ will continue to monitor the situation and provide additional updates as they are available. For more information, please contact your local MIQ Logistics representative.
