Nor’Easter Impacting Operations From D.C. to Boston

The most recent Nor’easter of the season is impacting logistics from Washington D.C. to Boston. 

 

The latest storm summary from NOAA (National Oceanic and Atmospheric Administration) shows snow accumulation throughout 9 states, with some of the heaviest accumulation for Virginia, West Virginia, Maryland, Pennsylvania, New Jersey and New York.

With snow expected to continue for the New York and New Jersey, and Washington D.C. areas from Wednesday into Thursday, there have already been hundreds of flight cancelations and port closures.  Below is a summary of what is being reported as of Wed (3/21).

Port of New Jersey and New York
“With accumulation & freezing temps expected overnight, all PONYNJ container terminals will be closed on Wednesday March 21, 2018”

Boston (Conley Terminal)
“Conley Terminal will close at noon (Wednesday, March 21, 2018. (Terminal will be closing its Gate to outside Truckers at 11:15 and the Terminal Yard at noon time)”

Newark Liberty International Airport:
“Approximately 838 flights scheduled for today 3/21 have been canceled due to the nor’easter.”

John F. Kennedy International Airport
“Approximately 590 flights scheduled for today 3/21 have been canceled due to the nor’easter.”

LaGuardia Airport
“Approximately 738 flights scheduled for today have been canceled due to the nor’easter.”

Dulles International (Washington, D.C.)
Dulles International is open and operating. Our snow teams are preapred to mobilize equipment to keep runways clear as accumulating snowfall gets underway. The greatest local impacts are expected today (Wednesday). As the storm continues to the northeast, flights to other major U.S. airports could also be affected”

For MIQ Logistics, our global offices in Jamaica, NY, Hoboken, NJ and Ashburn, VA are all being impacted by the storm, operating on a skeletal staff within the office until 12:00 (noon) today.
