POSSIBILITY OF STRIKE INCHES CLOSER AS SECOND RAIL UNION REJECTS AGREEMENT

Wednesday October 26th, The Brotherhood of Railroad Signalmen (BRS), one of the two largest rail unions rejected President Joe Biden’s emergency board recommendations. Just over 60 percent of BRS members voted against the tentative agreement, therefore inching closer to the possibility of strike. As mentioned above, BRS is the second of the two largest rail unions to reject the agreement, the first being The Brotherhood of Maintenance of Way Employees Division, which represents 23,000 workers. The two unions rejected the deal in demand of more paid sick days and days for doctor visits. The agreement was proposed after multiple years of failed negotiations. That being said, the smaller unions have agreed to the board’s recommendation and can only wait for the larger unions to settle.
